    Love these drives
I have a number of NAS devices around used for different purposes. Some for entertainment. Some for security purposes. In all cases I need a reliable drive that performs well and can handle the rigors of running 24x7x365. I have used a number of brands over the years but I believe I have now standardized on these Seagate Ironwolf NAS disks. The price is very reasonable. The capacity is flexible enough that I promise you can find the size you need. The installation is always easy and the speed and performance has never let me down. I’m very satisfied.

    Seems Like a Solid Drive
Been running like a pro in my Synology. Seems like the quality of the restore is solid, but I can’t comment on the sound level as it runs in my basement where the temperature and heat is generally agreeable to a server environment. Throughput and speed is what I’d expect from an enterprise drive with normal heat levels and a standard installation for a SATA drive. For a refurb drive, I’d say it has terrific durability- seems like it’ll go for a least a few more year.

    Disappointed then extremely satisfied.
This was my first time buying a renewed drive. I’m upgrading my media server so I was super excited waiting for the delivery. Unfortunately, the drive that came was vibrating to the point it was shaking my entire desk and when I formatted it, it sounded like nails on the chalkboard. I was very bummed to say the least. However, the exchange got here before I was even able to drop off the return and it’s running like new. It’s just the chance you take buying renewed / refurbished.

Fails SMART short self-test, conveyance self-test, and h2testw test
I spent 24 hours writing test checksum files to this the 18TB drive only to have it start throwing errors. I do the same thorough test with every one of my hard drives and this is the first time I’ve ever seen one fail. I tested it in a dock as well as directly connected to my motherboard to verify it was not a cable issue.I’m pretty sad since the price was low, but I can’t trust a drive that’s throwing errors out of the gate. The drive had “0 hours” and only 1 start/stop count, so I bet the smart data was wiped.

    Working for now..
I replaced an older 8TB Ironwolf HDD with this. I was able to format it with EXT4 filesystem, clone my data to it from the 8TB Ironwolf, and resize this new drive it to it’s full capacity. Everything is working perfectly for now, however there was a strange clicking/grinding noise of initial boot/power up(I know HDD make noise spinning up but this sounded odd to me). I will still have to monitor it, as like many here, I am very cautious of renewed/refurbished computer components. I’ll only update if the drive fails, otherwise it is working fine and was half the price so I am happy.

    A good drive
I run a private media server and I own 10 of these now. If that doesnt speak volumes to you, well I dont know what more that I can say other than its fairly quiet, easy to install, its speed was as advertised and overall a good quality purchase. I have two more drives coming. I hope this will last me until the 40s come out OR the petabyte dvd’s are released.

Please read before plugging in your drive!!!
A lot of hard drive failures are the fault of the user for not following the proper procedure. I don’t even think what I’m recommending here it’s listed on Seagate website but here we go., make sure the computer you’re using to plug in your drive is capable of staying running for the next 38 hours, initialize your drive, choose low level format, that will take between 30- 38 hours for 18 TB , it all depends on your processor, speed, and your ram, when you start moving files to your Drive, approximately every 4 TB of Data you add to the drive, you need to run this command prompt, ( must run as an administrator). CHKDSK (drive letter) : /X/F/R , you can search the command on Google, this procedure can take approximately 30- 38 hours on the first time , 25 hours the second time , also make sure the check box is checked where it says allow indexing, and every time you add more data to your drive (2-4 TB ) specially huge amount of data you need to run the CHKDSK command, do it religiously once every 6 months, even if you don’t add any more files , your hard drive will last 10 years, I have seagate hard drives still running from 2010 -2012-2014 , thank you very much Amazon and thank you Seagate for a wonderful hard drive

I was initially worried about Intelcom mishandling the package, but it arrived in pristine condition thanks to the excellent drive packaging. The hard drive was wrapped in special airbags designed to hold it tightly and absorb any shocks.Upon extracting the SMART data, I found the drives had only 1 hour of usage, which is practically new. However, since SMART data can be erased, I ran more in-depth tests to be sure. Both drives passed the long SMART test (smartctl -t long) with zero errors. I also ran the ‘badblocks’ tool on both drives and found no issues.

SMART reports: 2 power ons, 2 power on hoursBasically a new drive for a used price if they didn’t reset the info (other drives were not reset from same seller so I’ll lean towards not reset)This is the second drive type I have purchased “renewed” from the seller, and this was not DoA so I will update the review if need be if I experience failures.

noisy, not sure if it was right from the start but now after 9months it has failed to a point where I cannot even get it to partition…… what a waste of $$

  12. Jeff Griffin

Works exactly like it should. Packaging was impressive, Looks exactly like a new drive. Appreciate the deep discounted price. Will update if it fails.
