These are the best hard drives
These are the best hard drives. If you can afford them the WD Red Pro drives are excellent. Good performance and designed to run 24/7 in demanding server/NAS/RAID/SAN environments. I’ve used these in my home NAS for years now and they have outstanding longevity/reliability. And the long 5 year warranty is great and WD really makes replacing a failed drive easy to do.Another drive with similar performance and reliability to consider is the Seagate IronWolfe drives. They compete well with WD Red Pro and have slightly better performance for a little less money, but only have a 3 year warranty. I believe it is worth it to get the WD Red Pro for the longer warranty.

    No issues yet, quiet, fast
I use mine daily and haven’t had any issues. I don’t leave it on 24/7 though, and my application is an external open dock. Love these for how peaceful they are compared to the old days of Seagate 10k Raptors lol.

Beware of loud noise during disk access. Otherwise works well.
8 TB drives. They are louder than the 4TB Seagate dries which reside in my Synology NAS. Functionally they are perfect.

    Works great
I’ve had this running for on board and it was sluggish. I got a new pci-e card and it now runs really fast. I was wondering if it was a drive but it wasn’t it was being throttled and now it’s running perfect. 🙂

    DISCONTINUED
Superseded by WD8003FFBX, which is also $45 cheaper than the price shown here.

    One Star
Hear clicking noise when mounting to my workstation. After Linux bootup, rum command “lsblk -f”, and cannot find this new disk.

    I am a WDC fanboy.
I have 9 of these in a 12 bay synology device and not a single problem. If I had deeper pockets I would have opted for the 10TB version with the larger cache but these are snappy enough for my needs! I also got these red pro over the red drives for the warranty. While WDC has been excellent on reliability these are mechanical drives in a NAS that gets a lot of I/O to the volume, so that extra piece of mind in a couple years will come in handy. I have used WDC warranty services over the past decade and have been very pleased with that service as well. I will keep using WDC mechanical drives until large solid state drives get very close in price per gig compared to these type of NAS mechanical drives.

    Work fine
These seem to work just fine. They area bit noisy as noted elsewhere.

Seems to hit the sweet spot in terms of price cf. cost – and thought it worth paying the extra for the Pro version compared to the standard Red NAS drive for additional speed (7,200 RPM) and (hopefully) longevity. Happy with the performance, it seems to run quite cool, and it isn’t particularly loud – I’m using it for a media server in a domestic environment, and the noise in a QNAP 4 bay NAS is barely perceptible from a few feet away.

    Great
