All Antenna. All Optimization.

Powered Zigbee devices (those that don’t run on batteries) typically include the ability to repeat signals to other Zigbee devices. But not all repeaters are born equal. Range Extender Zi was specifically engineered with one job in mind. This means that it is optimized to repeat and amplify Zigbee radio signals, providing you with a stronger, more reliable connection.

Aeotec Range Extender Zi – Your Simple Solution for Seamless Zigbee Connectivity
The Aeotec Range Extender Zi is an unassuming yet effective gadget that serves as a powerful ally for anyone looking to expand their Zigbee-based wireless network. At first glance, this device impresses with its minimalistic design, a discreet plug-in unit that promises to wipe out those frustrating dead spots in your network coverage.Setup was a breeze with my existing Zigbee hub (Aerotec SmartThings). The extender paired almost instantly, and from that moment, it was all smooth sailing. Once plugged in, the device diligently does its job, without any need for user intervention. It’s a classic case of ‘set and forget’, something every busy homeowner would appreciate. The real charm of the Aeotec Range Extender Zi, though, lies in its efficacy. The persistent network gaps that once plagued my home are now a thing of the past. I could bridge connections between floors, extending the network reach even to the farthest corners of my property, including my once out-of-reach garage.Despite its compact size, the Range Extender Zi delivers a punch when it comes to performance. Reliable and unobtrusive, it plugs directly into an outlet while still leaving the other port accessible. I have two of these extenders now, and they’ve been working flawlessly, ensuring uninterrupted Zigbee connectivity throughout my home.To those grappling with inconsistent connections or facing network dead zones, I highly recommend the Aeotec Range Extender Zi. With its easy setup, reliable performance, and affordable price point, it’s a simple yet highly effective solution to enhance your Zigbee network coverage.Remember, a robust smart home network is key to an efficient smart home system. So, why not give your network the boost it needs with the Aeotec Range Extender Zi?If you found this review insightful or it helped guide your decision in any way, please take a moment to mark it as ‘helpful’. It would be greatly appreciated and can assist others in finding the information they need. Happy smart-homing!

    Recommended for Home Assistant
I read that this was one of the more highly recommended rage extenders for home assessment, and I have found that it works great. It does really extend range in my house, and it integrates in a very compatible way, and lots of other zigbee devices connect through it with no problem. It’s also easy to reset to factory settings and set it up again if you ever need to do that, The indicator light around the button on the bottom of the unit flashes in a way where it’s easy to know what’s happening as you set it up or reset it. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

These restored my faith in zigbee
These things are zigbee networking magic. I have several zigbee devices including several blinds and battery-powered sensors across my home. Even with 4 plugs acting as repeaters and optimal antenna placement, my blinds would randomly disconnect from the network. I bought a couple of these and put them at opposite corners of my house, and now every zigbee device in my network has had a solid and snappy connection for weeks. They also look great and work very well with Home Assistant running zigbee2mqtt.

    Works, simple, inexpensive.
Any and all devices like this that I look at will be either Zigbee or Zwave and will be operated through HomeSeer (home automation software). So there are no apps or hubs. Now about the Aeotec Range Extender. I plugged it in wall next to my computer, put it in paring mode, and it worked. I have an outlet outside that was way out of range and it suddenly worked. When I looked at the extender device info, where was only the device name. Oh, well, it worked. Location is important and should be where your system signal is still within range although marginally. Mine is plugged in a covered wall socket on our porch. The outlet to be operated is in a shed located some distance from our porch. Well worth the cost and has been working in the Texas heat and humidity without issue. I will give it a 5 star because it was probably the simplest install and did what I wanted it to do.

Not as impressive as I’d Hope, But did help a great deal
I may change this review later as I’m still refining my Zigbee mesh, and its current position low to the ground might also be the reason. But for the hype it was given I don’t really think it adds as much as they claim. Now I’m already running a custom built EFR32MGM21 PoE running as my main coordinator. Even with its power and reach I was still loosing alot of end points that were not easily accessible. This runs a similar chipset with and EFR32MG21 per there specs and I’m still getting dead zones. I was impressed that a lot of the devices that were already repeaters but had other functions like my LEDVANCE bulbs. And the RSSI and LQI all looked great. But I’m still getting Aqura Windows/Door, Water, and a Temp Sensors drop from the mesh again and again. Even though the all say Zigbee 3.0. They all don’t cut the grade. So I’m going to say this is probably worth the money as it can hold and repeats a lot of sensors. I would like to see some ESPHome.io and Home Assistant support as well. But over all it has made things better. I still have a higher gain antenna for my coordinator which is going in the rafters. But I also need it to reach around 2 acres of land and under my house where our Well Main Shut off valve is which I’ll be putting in when I get the chance. It too runs on Zigbee so we’ll see how that works. Eventually I’ll try and review what I can as far as Zigbee and its standard as we move into the more Matter based devices as well. But if your anything like me. You won’t be happy until you have your holodeck and a computer that actually talks back and is relevant.I may test it at a different plug and circuit and see if that makes a difference and will try and update with those resultsOne thing that I thought was interesting although I haven’t tried it is a little nub with a screw hole in it. It’s plastic so I can’t see how it would do anything running it to the wall plate screw other than to secure it in place so it doesn’t get knocked out. That if it works will push this up to the 5 start level for anyone who has pets or little ones.

A must have for any person facing issues with the zigbee connectivity for smart home devices. Easy to install by scanning with your gateway, and viola! Definitely recommended.

  7. Norm Miller

    Awesome for the wifi issues

  8. JM

I needed to extend my zigbee network to reach some devices further away from my Home assistant system that were intermittently dropping off. After setting this up nearer the problematic devices, I haven’t had a problem since.

  9. Peter

Zigbee is generally a poor quality network so this helped stabilize things for me. Using hubitat C7.
