Rebuttal to previous review (which was entitled, “I HATE this coffee maker”).
I was flabbergasted by a previous review of this coffee maker, entitled “I HATE this coffee maker.” So, I decided to write a response. I am not affiliated with Braun. I purchased this coffee maker, I love it, and I simply believe that the previous review is unfair.So, here we go: The reviewer wrote:”My biggest gripe: The water level indicator for the reservoir is inside the reservoir with some sort of stepped dip stick of sorts. You are suppose to look into this dark reservoir and see the level of the water against this indicator.”LOL. No. The carafe that comes with this coffee maker is clearly marked, making the “dip stick” markers inside the unit redundant. One needs only to fill the *carafe* to the desired level, then pour the water into the machine. It is NEVER necessary to “look into the dark reservoir.”The Reviewer wrote:”…a 1 to 4 cup setting that is never explained fully. Instructions say to use this feature if you are making 1 to 4 cups. […] Absolutely NO description of what it does. Does it brew faster, slower, more water, less water; who knows.”Well, it’s obvious that the “1-4” setting is for a shorter brew time. So, what further information is required? If you’re making as few as 1-4 cups, press the button—and the machine will adjust accordingly. If you’re making 5 or more cups, don’t press the button! It’s literally that simple.The reviewer wrote:”None of the manufactures [sic] make it clear what type of filter they use. Braun included.”That is simply false. The second sentence under “About this item” is: “The Braun gold-tone filter enhances the flavour of your coffee.” The filter type is also mentioned both on Braun’s web site and on the product’s box. It’s mentioned everywhere.The reviewer wrote:”Braun decided to make it difficult to fill using the carafe. The lid on the carafe and the lid coffee maker are in the way of each other and prevent a decent pour resulting in water all over the burner and counter sometimes.”I have no clue why the above was written. I’ve been using this coffee maker several times a day for weeks. I have no problem pouring water into the machine, and I have literally never spilled even a drop of water.The reviewer wrote:”The coffee maker has an auto shutoff too. Always a nice feature when you forget to turn it off manually. And this maker has an adjustable time for the auto off. The problem is you have to turn the auto off feature on in order for it to work. Great! A feature for the forgetfulness that requires you to remember.”NOTE: This coffee maker shuts off *automatically*—WITHOUT the need to press the button. The button is required *only* if you want to specify a *specific time* for it to shut off. Otherwise, just make your coffee, then go about your business, and the coffee maker will shut itself off—100% of the time.The reviewer wrote:”Update: I have been using this coffee maker for a couple of weeks now and felt compelled to update this review. Coffee tastes good. Nice features. Required five passes of water only for break-in.
It makes good coffee. I especially like that it has a “bold” brew option, though that was not the deciding factor. The timer is nice and I like waking up to the aroma of fresh coffee. 12 cup capacity is good because leftover coffee goes into the fridge for iced coffee. The off timer is a good feature too. Overall, the coffee tastes pretty smooth probably due to the water filter. I use filtered water anyway. Key thing to note is it took five passes of water only to “break it in.” The first pass I could smell the plastic in the air. Then I made a small pot of coffee and could still taste plastic. Fortunately, after five passes the plastic smell and taste was gone.

has the features that I was looking for, working well
Previous coffee maker quit brewing after 5 years (very good in my experience). I had some features that I used often and wanted again in the new machine. I attempted to buy the same model that quit working, but the “new, improved” version was lacking several of the features that I was looking for (and had been on the “old” model), and the price had more than doubled. I was very happy to find this coffeemaker (has most of the things that I was looking for) and hope that I get at least 5 years of use (we use the coffee maker every day for 1 pot; sometimes on weekends we will make 2 pots)Features I was looking for:=12-14 cup capacity=option to make 1-4 cups (be aware that if you put in water for more than 4 cups it will brew it all even if the 1-4 button is active – I think all coffeemaker with this function work that way)=timer / auto brew / set up the coffee maker before bed to wake to brewed coffee – -[ previous pot let you set 2 different timers (we used one for week days, one for weekends) could set them and just select the one you wanted to use] you can only program one time with this model so have to set a different time if wanted – not a huge deal, but it was nice to have both times already set=stay hot feature longer than 2 hours (seems to be the standard) ; some would say coffee is not good after sitting more than 2 hours, but… ;previous machine could be set in 15 min. increments to 4 hours – – this model does not promote it, but can be set in 15 min. increments to 5 hours (and it does stay hot), if you do not press the stay hot button it will auto shut off after 2 hours=hot brew temps, my husband likes his coffee hot, and if you add cream that cools it a bit – – this is hot enough=reusable gold mesh filter – comes with it=”self cleaning” function /mode — put in the water & vinegar and press the button (be sure to run fresh water through a few times after the clean cycle is done)=decent size – – not a huge footprint on the counter or too high to fit under the cupboard so can push back out of the way=added plus is that it does not create steam when brewing – previous pot would release steam from top/back – – this coffee maker does not so if under the cupboard you are not damaging your woodwork————————–the clock/display is not backlit (it is black numbers on gray background) so it is not be visible in the dark, this is not a big deal for me I do not use it as a clock (lots of other clocks in the kitchen (microwave, stove, actual clock on wall); when I need to see the display (setting/changing brew time – only when I need to change it, setting/changing stay warm time (again not often) I have the room lights on and it is not an issue. The indicator lights for each function are green and easy to see what you have set-I did not have difficulty figuring out how to use it [be sure to press the on/off button when you set the auto brew and press it (it lights up) when you press the brew button if starting the brew manually or overriding the auto brew]After about a month I am very happy with this coffeemaker. I hope that it keeps working for a long time.

La cafetera es bellísima, tanto el diseño como la construcción y detalles son muy bonitos. Es muy intuitiva y rápida: en más o menos 14 minutos hace toda la jarra de café. El filtro es permanente así que no hay necesidad de estar contaminando con filtros desechables. Tiene buena capacidad, el sistema de auto encendido funciona perfectamente. Tiene función para elegir el grado de dureza del agua. La jarra es muy bonita, fácil de limpiar y todos los aditamentos son aptos para lavavajillas. El reloj es bastante grande y claro, si la energía eléctrica se corta o la desconectas para limpiarla, cuentas con hasta un minuto sin energía antes de que se pierda la programación lo cual es muy auxiliar. La temperatura que alcanza es ideal. La placa de calefacción ayuda a que el café se mantenga caliente por mucho tiempo, si el tanque está vacío, se puede encender la cafetera y la placa se calentará para recalentar el café, es una función muy útil. El único contra que le pongl es que con la función de 1-4 tazas, si el depósito de agua está lleno, no se detiene, seguirá produciendo café así que es importante solo llenar el depósito con la cantidad exacta de café a preparar, fuera de ello, el resto es perfecto. Muy contento con la compra.

This is a great coffee machine. It does everything you would want from a new coffee machine. It has several settings to make everyday coffee making much easier.I like that I can set an auto timer for coffee making in the morning. Nothing better than waking up to the smell of fresh coffee. This coffee maker has a full heating pad that does not shut off after 15 minutes, you can set a timer for this too so no worries about leaving the hot plate on too long.The included filter works very well, usually these allow little bits to fall through but not this one. This product is super easy to clean, easy to refill and easy to set timers. I suggest watching a youtube video as the manual is boring.If I had one bad thing to say about this coffee machine, it would be that the glass coffee jug breaks easily. I broke mine the second day when throwing it in the dishwasher, my fault, I sometimes dont know my own strength.Overall great coffee machine especially for the price.

This is without doubt the very best drip style coffee maker I have ever owned. After a number of relatively inexpensive big box store coffee makers over the years, notably models from Mr. Coffee and Black and Decker, functional but not exceptional, I decided to “splurge” on this higher priced Braun unit.The first one arrived with a loose, wobbly, ill fitting lid which Amazon very kindly replaced for me despite it being slightly beyond the return period. The second machine is perfect. It looks elegant and very upscale on my kitchen counter. Almost Barrista!!The materials and the design simply exude quality. It is a breeze to operate once it has been set up which only takes a few moments. I think, but I’m not sure, that my morning coffee actually tasted better once I began to use this machine.I know it has more features than I will likely ever use to allow me to adjust the brew strength. However, as of yet, I have not experimented with any of these. I can tell you that the brew cycle takes less time than any of my other coffee makers. It is also far quieter during the brewing stage and the first of my three mugs of morning coffee is as hot as I would wish it to be with no need to revert to the microwave to add a bit of additional heat as was the case with my last Mr. Coffee coffee maker.While a bit pricey to be sure, it is without doubt, worth every penny. This machine strikes me as incorporating the very best of European design and manufacture. It should last for years to come!
