- The lock jams and the turnpiece does not rotate smoothly: (1) The door handing process was not executed during installation.Perform the door handing process in the Installation Guide. (2) The hole in the door is misaligned.Disassemble the lock, and reinstall it without the adapter ring on the exterior side of the door.
- The Lock button does not lock the door. (1) No user codes are programmed.If there are no codes in the lock, the lock button will not lock the door. Program at least one user code and test the Lock button again. (2) The door handing process was not executed.Perform the door handing process, following the instructions inside the installation guide. (3) The battery is too low to lock the door.This is indicated by the keypad flashing red three times with three beeps. Remove the batteries and replace with a fresh set.

If you have a door with a deadbolt that has plenty of traffic this is the deadbolt for you.Personal Experience:My family uses our man door on the side of our house for nearly everything, from walking the dog to going out back to taking out the trash it is the most heavily trafficked doorway. After a few instances where I was taking late night walks with the dogs and didn’t want to fumble with keys in below freezing temperatures I decided to upgrade to this Z-Wave Deadbolt. Since I installed the deadbolt I have been extremely pleased with its performance. The electronic locking and unlocking features are so simple my 5/yo is able to lock/unlock while I get the dogs ready or cleaned up before going on a walk or into the garage. I also have a home hub which took less time to recognize the device than I spent physically installing the deadbolt (always a win). Having the deadbolt connect to my SmartThings Hub quickly was a huge plus because I hate spending tons of time setting up electronics that should be simple. One of the biggest benefits (IMHO) of connecting the deadbolt to my SmartThings is that I get notifications if the deadbolt is left open longer than an hour. I can also check the status of the lock before I go to bed, because if you are like me, you lay in bed unable to sleep and try to remember if you locked to door until you drag your butt out of bed to check. This unit does use batteries so just be aware that you are going to change them based on your habits, if you use the electronic features a lot you will need to swap out batteries more often. If I get 6 months of battery life based on the amount of traffic I expect than I am very pleased. Finally was the aesthetics of the product is in line with the door knob that I had so the new deadbolt did not look out of place after everything was completed.Pros:Easy to install if replacing and existing deadbolt of the same sizeNumbers and lock symbol are easy to read and pushConnecting to SmartThings was simple and fast (and by fast I mean less than a minute)Z-Wave Plus range and response is excellentColor scheme matched the existing knobs/deadbolts I haveCons:Battery life can drained if used constantly (I see this as cost of having electronic deadbolt but being objective)

Great lock. Some initial issues setting up with Vivint
Great lock. Replaced older version same brand 888 that eventually wore out. Installed in 20 min no problem. Did have a time with getting it setup via Vivint alarm system. In the future, Suggest before installing the back part of lock to get the ZWave connection recognized by the Vivint keypad first. After some of the issues with the setup and what I learned from this install, this is what I would do next time for a VIVINT system. Call Vivint and get tech help to get into the Installer Toolbox screen – this is where you add or remove ZWave devices. Remove the old lock from the system first. Then take the back half of the new lock with the battery pack inserted up next to the Vivint keypad and add the new lock. I had to reboot my keypad after removing the original lock before it would recognize and add the new lock. Overall great lock and the last Kwikset lasted 12 years.

Have had great results with rechargeable cells
I purchased this on February 9, 2017 and have had great success with it. At first it was a little difficult to pair with my SmartThings hub but I managed to get it paired after following the instructions verbatim (this took the longest time in the install process). This z-wave door lock replaced my older unit; non z-wave (Kwikset 99130-003 SmartCode 913) and the one it replaced moved to the inner garage entryway. Both this 914 and 913 model have had a lot of reviews that complain about how long the battery lasts. I need to inform those that the right battery is key and if you’re going to use rechargeable cells, then get the eneloop brand! Since installing this on Feb 9th, I recently had to replace the rechargeable eneloops on May 12, 2017. The batteries kept it functioning for over 3 months! Keep in mind this is my front door which is used several times per day – average use. I replaced the eneloops with some rechargeable Li-po batteries to test out.# Pros- Once paired with SmartThings hub it works great. Not much lag at all, it unlocks and locks.- Easy to install (may not be for others) but Reading The Fine Manual should provide successful installs as a DIYer.- Batteries last over 3 months on rechargeables – Eneloops, the real deal.# Cons- Had some difficulties while pairing the device with my SmartThings hub. The unit must be close to the hub to pair prior to mounting it to the door. This is more of an error on my part since I expected the lock to pair with my hub being a few dozen ft away.# Other Notes- The 914 keypad I received is smaller than the older 913. I kept the keypad from the 913 on the front door hooked up to the new 914 inner part. Works great and I didn’t have to repaint the door. It worked out well since the smaller keypad from the 914 fit better on the doorway connecting the interior garage door.# RecommendationsIf you want to use rechargeable cells, get the eneloop brand. If you live in a region that is cold, get rechargeable Li-po cells since they hold up better in colder temperatures. The Li-po cells I put in seem to perform a lot better than the eneloops since the voltage is constant. The locking and unlocking seems quicker and has more power to perform those tasks. I ordered the Li-po cells on eBay. Search for “Kentli 1.5V 3000mWh AA Lithium Li-po” and those are the ones I currently have installed and will be updating this review while I gain more experience with them.

Turns out that as I tried to install I discovered that my door required the drive-in latch (A2). Apparently this part is considered optional and not included in the box. How do I get this part? Given I can’t use it I’ve put 2 stars for the time being.Update: They manufacturer sent me the part I needed. This has been a very reliable and useful smart lock to own. Very happy with this purchase.
