Very reliable and cost effective drives for my SYNOLOGY DS-224+ NAS
Two of these 16TB SYNOLOGY hard drives are in use in my SYNOLOGY DS-224+ 2-bay NAS, setup in a Synology Hybrid Raid 1 (SHR1) configuration spinning 24×7 providing 14+TB of storage, housing all my data and photos. Installation in the toolless SYNOLOGY NAS case is very simple. They’ve been at work for almost a year without any issues. I recently found the price reduced to a point made sense to lay in a spare 16TB for the “just in case” need. I am looking at possibly upgrading to a SYNOLOGY 4 bay model within the next year or so and will need 2 additional 16TB. While there is strong differences of opinion in forums as to the viability of using these drives or 3rd party drives from other major manufacturers in SYNOLOGY NAS devices, I chose to use these based on 2 points. First, the price point for the SYNOLOGY branded 16TB drives (reportedly manufactured by Toshiba) was comparable (within a few dollars) to the 3rd party offerings and secondly, according to SYNOLOGY’s support requirements, using non-approved options “could” impact warranty coverage. Even though some 3rd party drives were on the Approved Equipment List, I personally chose to stay fully with SYNOLOGY to avoid any and all warranty issues that might arise from 3rd party drive use.The access to the NAS using these drives is adequate for my needs. I have not experienced any what I would call abnormal transfer speeds. I’m sure it could be faster if everything was streamlined and optimized. The drives are barely noticeable sound-wise. Occasionally I will hear a slight noise from the NAS as the drives are being accessed but normally really quiet. Being a single user system, it does not run excessively hot, usually the NAS case is just warm to the touch. I suppose if there were many users and the drives were being constantly accessed, the temperatures might be higher. All in all, I have been pleased with the system, performance and maintainability of these SYNOLOGY 16TB drives.

Perfect HDD for Synology DS224x
We got this hard drive for our DS224x. It’s been working great. It can get loud when we initially backed our devices up but we put it in a place where it’s negligible so it’s perfect for us. Very easy to install, booted up quickly. It’s a little more expensive than other brands but we didn’t want to have to think about updating the software with 3rd party apps so we just went with the Synology brand for a $20 difference give or take. Connects to our WiFi no problem. Satisfied with my purchase.

Quiet and easy to install in synology nas
I was looking to add storage capacity to my synology NAS. This drive gave my the extra capacity and was very easy to add to my NAS. It’s quiet and just as quick as my other RED drives I’ve used in the past. I’m hoping these have the lifespan and quality that my previous drives had, but so far I’ve only had this installed for a few months. No issues with them yet.

Great drive
Bought as a replacement drive for Synology. I had WD Reds, but got tired of WD screwing up the SHR/CHR drives. This is a great drive, runs quiet, and seems reliable.

Quality HDDs for my SynologyNAS.
A good range of storage capacities, 12TB was perfect for my needs. Well packaged and arrived on time. Addresses the issue that Synology introduced with the compatibility requirement for HDD to be used by their NAS and current version of DSM. In my case I was not able to do a normal drive replacement, it would not work. Be sure to do a complete backup of your data and NAS configuration if you are replacing HDDs in your current NAS. HyperBackup worked perfectly for the backup and restore.

compatible, quiet, not terribly expensive
OK, I used to have an old 1 bay diskstation which I just filled w/ whatever spare drives I had. Never any trouble, probably ran for 13 yrs w/ various drives demoted from my internal pc bays. Now i have a new synology 2 bay, and had endless trouble using spare drives in it. Reds were just unusably loud. Random spare pc disks consistently failed power on regularly (but only in the DS). In desperation, I got these synology branded drives and everything just works. So, I guess times have changed. Fortunately, these are quiet, work, and aren’t even at a horrid premium as I expected them to be. So, I could have saved myself a LOT of time and a little money just going with these from the start, I guess, instead of trying to be cheap. Mixed feelings about that, tbh, but these work, are quiet, and reasonably priced.

Great Drive for NAS
Got 2 of these for my Synology NAS. Flawless for the last 5 months. I’m using it to access large video files remotely. Works great!

Decent price and it works for the Synology personal NAS servers
I resent that Synology implemented its policy of supporting its own drives. I can understand their logic, but I have been using Synology servers with Seagate, Western Digital, etc. drives with no problems since 2016. However, this drive was a comparable price, and it has been working fine ever since I popped it in the NAS, so I’m not grumbling quite as loudly as I was.

Got this from Amazon Resale and was described as like-new.The drive arrived in a plain brown box that was not taped shut and the bare drive was sandwiched between 2 plastic holder with no anti-static bag. This had me concerned so I immediately connected the drive via USB to a Win10 desktop and started running an extended write test with HD Sentinel Pro. The drive has 18 days and 11 hours of power-on time before I started the test. This may sound like a lot of power-on time but it isn’t for a NAS drive. After 24 hours, I’m happy to report that the drive passed the test with zero read/write errors and is not sitting in a NAS.Purchasing from Amazon Resale saved me money which resulted in great value for a Synology-branded drive.
