ZWave pro security sensor: Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro from Aeotec

3-in-1 security and intelligence sensor from Aeotec. Monitor the use of doors and windows. Connected simple devices to ZWave.
Understanding when a door or window opens or closes is one of the most powerful pieces of knowledge within an automation system. You can use it to power security and safety systems. You can also use it to power intelligent automation, turning electronics on and off depending on how a room is used.
Door / Window Sensor 7 from Aeotec uses leading Gen7 and Z-Wave Plus technology to deliver a whole lot of intelligence and reliability in one slim, German-engineered package.
While it’s called a door or window sensor, in reality it can be attached to any object that opens or closes. That means you an use it to monitor other objects such as;
alcohol cabinets and medicine cabinetschests and drawers
Once it notifies your Z-Wave gateway that an object has been opened or closed, your automation software can execute a huge range of intelligent reactions including;
turning lights on or off based on room useturning heating or air conditioning off when windows are opened, and turning them back on when windows are closedsending notifications when private areas are entered or off-limits objects openedmanaging security and safety alerts and alarms when doors or windows are opened
In this 3-in-1, Pro version of Aeotec’s German-engineered door / window sensor technology stack, a total of 3 sensors are included:
a rare-earth magnetic sensor to monitor the separation of doors, windows, and movable objectsa tilt sensor optimised for use with tilt-turn windowsa universal binary / dry contact sensor enables the wiring of non-smart electronics into Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro via their low-voltage, pulse output. Each output is relayed to your ZWave hub for the triggering of intelligent automation routines.

Smart inside. 3-1 Door Sensor Window Sensor
There’s more to your home than its entrances.
All-new, all intelligent, and all sensor. German engineering and Silicon Valley design. Completely re-engineered but built upon 13 years’ wave sensor experience. And it’s still super simple to install.Aeotec’s smallest, full-featured open/close sensor; 40% smaller than Door / Window Sensor Gen5. 2 sensors built-in: open/close sensor and tilt sensor. Additionally can be used connected 3rd party electronics to your Z-Wave system using the sensor’s universal binary input / dry contact sensor.
Door / Window Sensor 7 is your first line of defence against an intruder. The instant a door or window opens, your smart home system can alert you and activate compatible sirens, cameras and other security devices. With Aeotec’s patented Spatial Intrusion Algorithm built in, Door / Window Sensor 7 can even detect some break-ins before they happen, alerting you before anyone breaks in.
Alert before intruder. Protect your home. Protect who you love.

Installable in only moments,

Receives alerts and notifications.

Set cameras to record.

Trigger security sirens.

Wireless maximum
To be simple to install, it has to be wireless. To secure your home, its engineering has to be perfected. Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro is powered by the speed enhancements that come from Z-Wave Plus and Z-Wave S2 enabling it to wireless communicate 50% faster and up to 67% further in real-world use.

Incredibly small
The 3-1 Door / Window Sensor 7 is 44.3% smaller than its predecessors but wholly re-engineered. It’s the first security sensor engineered in Germany and designed in Silicon Valley and is structured around an all-new elastic, bayonet architecture allowing Aeotec to craft Z-Wave’s smallest, most extensible, and yet most capable security sensor.

Optimised battery life
It has the best battery life ever found in a feature-packed zwave door sensor. Wireless is convenient but having to change batteries too often is annoying. That’s why Door / Window Sensor 7 features a unique balance of hardware and software optimizations which allow it to use up to 66% less battery power to communicate via Z-Wave Plus. It’s German engineering at its very best.

ZWave hub required
Door / Window Sensor 7 Pro uses Z-Wave Plus to communicate wirelessly. That means you’ll need a Z-Wave hub to use it.

Long Battery Life! PRO Allows Wired Connection!
I picked up two PRO versions and wired them to my furnace and dehumidifier water pumps. If the pump stops working the pump will fill and trigger the overflow switch wired to the sensor. My home automation hub then sends me a notification that the reservoir is not emptying so I can deal with it without water overflowing. This was really easy to setup. Tested and works perfectly.Plus, the batteries can last years! Since the switch has yet to get triggered in this use case the batteries are still at 100% after a year in opperation.

Not a Developer
It needed to be updated out the box. Aeotec no number to call all on line. Samsung help a lot and getting things working. Once I understand what I was doing and how they made the security on the device so that they can be updated them it move along fine I will buy them again they’re very secure

Not Good!
I didn’t have any issues with the setup, and I got it into dry contact mode using the 5x button press method, but after that, it’s been a mess. The app reports it’s open and then closed, then open, and the switch and contacts are not being touched. It randomly changes status and sends out notifications.I also noticed that when I refreshed the app view, it would toggle from Open to Closed, and within 10 minutes, the battery level went from 100% to 96%. This thing is garbage and totally unreliable. It’s being returned.

Great item, very flexible
I’ve got several of these, and they are great. Simple door/window sensor, as well as providing an interface for other wired contact sensors, like garage door sensors or ones that are wired into homes/doors/windows already. Even has a tilt sensor. Works great. Worth the price.

Excellent integration with Dakota Alert BBA-4K-Plus IR Break Beam Solar Powered Motion Sensor Alarm
I needed an open/close sensor to integrate my Dakota Alert BBA-4K-Plus IR Break Beam Solar Powered Motion Sensor Alarm System. In my situation I wanted to know if a vehicle or person crossed my daughter-in-law’s 220 foot property line running parallel to a road right of way. The Aeotec 3-1 Door/Window Sensorwas very easy (Thanks to an article from the SmartThings Community Forums) to accomplish what needed to be done. Whenever someone breaks the beam I get a notification via IFTTT & it would be simple to perform other security actions (turn on a floodlight at night, etc.) This sensor worked great!

Finnicky and Unreliable
The form factor is great, installation and setup was a breeze, but getting it to reliably detect open/close state is severely lacking. It is very sensitive to not so much distance but position of the contact sensor. If it isn’t positioned JUST right then it won’t detect that it is closed and you will be opening and closing the door several times to get it to detect. But don’t do it to quick either because there appears to be some sort of detection cooldown period? The old square contact sensors may’ve been bulky but by Dog they worked.

Works if you read the instructions
I felt like I had to write a review after seeing all the negative reviews about issues with pairing. I, too, had issue pairing with my Samsung Smartthings hub. After finding current setup instructions online, I set my hub into exlusion mode, deleted the half-baked z-wave entry in the Smartthings app, factory reset the sensor, and started over. Following the instructions online, I got things running, and the sensors work great. I’m buying more.

Compact device with multiple uses; works just fine
I use this to relay the signal from an alarm system to my home automation system. Alarm system has a contact pair that closes when alarm is activated. Just wired that to the terminals inside this device and added the device to my Z-wave system. Took all of 5 minutes and works just fine.
