The Most Complete Starter Kit with Hgh Quality Components and Tutorial
Quantity and quality are both important here in ELELGOO UNO R3 starter kit. The most essential parts in this kit are UNO R3 controller board and expansion board, which is a clone with excellent product finish compatible with Arduino projects.
Besides, we offer other over 60 kinds of components and sensors from small parts like LED diodes, resistors and potentiometer to big parts like LCD1602, RFID module and 830 tie-points breadboard, which meet your demands for your different projects either it is simple or complex.
Sturdy quality is definitely the most important thing to ELEGOO even with so many components provided we never compromised on the quality. Instead we keep improving our product quality in our own factory and we produce the products by ourselves under high standards and strict quality control. Pins and wires on some of the parts like LCD16502 and motors have been pre-soldered which is very convenient and saves your time.

74HC595 Shift Register and LEDs
74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time. This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it’s still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it’s worth it!
74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the ‘Data’ and ‘Clock’ pins of the chip.

LCD1602 Display module
LCD1602 module is a display that has an LED backlight and can display two rows with up to 16 characters on each row. You can see the rectangles for each character on the display and the pixels that make up each character. The display is just white on blue and is intended for showing text.
Lining up the display with the top of the breadboard helps to identify its pins without too much counting, especially if the breadboard has its rows numbered with row 1 as the top row of the board. Do not forget, the long yellow lead that links the slider of the pot to pin 3 of the display. The ‘pot’ is used to control the contrast of the display.

DC Motors and L293D Transistor
In this project you will learn how to control a small DC motor using an UNO R3 and a L293D transistor, which is a very useful chip. It can actually control two motors independently. We are just using half the chip in this lesson, most of the pins on the right hand side of the chip are for controlling a second motor.
L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers and designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. The L293D is also designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V and drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage loads in positive-supply applications.

Amazing Value and a Ton of Fun!
I was looking for an Arduino clone starter kit and considered many options. I’m an Electrical Engineer with 15+ years experience designing, manufacturing and testing space flight electrical hardware for satellites. I have a very high standard for quality and was hesitant to purchase this kit due to its low price and my fears that it would be total junk. However, I figured the price was so darn low that even if it turned out to be junk, it wouldn’t be a huge waste. Wow, am I glad I bought this!First, the set arrives in a very useful organizer. I found this to be a really nice feature and helps save time when searching for parts to build each different project.Upon initial inspection, the quality of each component appeared very acceptable. Definitely low-quality parts — as you’d rightfully expect at this price point — but certainly no where near “junk” quality. By low-quality, I’m referring to mostly the solder quality, but also the individual piece-parts used in the assemblies are your standard Chinese low-grade parts. Some soldered parts were installed misaligned and some PCB assemblies still had visible contamination on them from inadequate washing. Again, this is all to be expected at this price point and so far, I was very pleased. The real test is if everything worked…I completed all the tutorials and found the instructions very easy to follow. A CD is included in the kit, which supposedly contains all the required software, tutorials and datasheets. My laptop doesn’t have a CD ROM drive so I downloaded everything on the Elegoo website. That’s probably the best option anyway — that way, you know you are using the latest versions of everything. The datasheets were a nice-to-have, although some of them were not as detailed as they should be. Still useful nonetheless. The tutorial manual was clearly written — it’s definitely not poorly translated Chinese-to-English like I expected. It’s entirely written in clear English. In some places, I wish it did a better job explaining the code and syntax, but honestly, that’s something Google can handle. Every tutorial was completed easily and I discovered only one technical mistake: the tutorial on DC motor control omitted a ground jumper between the Arduino board and the breadboard/motor controller board. Consequently, the control signal logic levels were not correctly referenced to the same ground potential on both boards. The motor did not respond correctly at first but some quick troubleshooting lead me to add the ground connection and everything worked flawlessly after that. I’ve tested every component in the kit now and everything works as intended. I’m a little bit surprised at this but very, VERY happy. This kit has been a ton of fun to play with. It’s perfect for anyone wanting to get started with Arduinos. It has so many different cool components that this will keep you entertained and get your creative juices flowing. I highly recommend it!

Fantastic Ardruino R3 kit!
Purchased for my husband, Chris, so he’ll do the review:Hi, Chris here 😉 I love this kit. More importantly, students love this kit. So many quality components in a well organized, yet compact case (with a small case inside for smaller parts). Many thanks for selecting metal film resistors in taped packaging, by the way(!). The Arduino UNO R3 unit features printed headers and board, with high quality, fully compatible build. A solid value, made even better with the free LED offer (and occasional discount codes – check Amazon’s coupon offers, and Elegoo’s social media).Elegoo support is friendly and eager to ensure you have a satisfied experience. Some minor shortcomings. Some of the test jumpers ends were bent, and there could definitely be a few more longer jumper wires (grab their Elegoo EL-CP-004 120pcs Multicolored Dupont Wire kit and split off as needed). The header printing did an admirable job versus sweaty hands, but eventually most printing vanished (board is printed though). The book and projects are surprisingly good. Lesson 27, 74HC595 and 7 Segment Display, is missing a ground jumper on pin 8 of the 74HC595 of the Wiring Diagram (it’s in the schematic and example). Probably fine, but thought I would point it out since a student and I noticed it when checking our wiring back to the schematic.Oh, I would also grab the Elegoo EL-CB-003 MEGA 2560, or get that kit (Elegoo EL-KIT-008 Mega 2560 Project The Most Complete Ultimate Starter Kit). You may eventually want more IO ports and memory, that the MEGA 2560 provides.

Good kit, but maybe not for kids
Came as advertised, all the pieces were intact and well organized in a divided tray type package. There was a listing on the inside of the package that identified each item but not where each item was in the package, the pictures were good enough that you could identify each item. The CD had the required libraries for the projects but the instructions were not the best, but I have more fun figuring stuff out myself rather than following detailed directions. I have many years in electronics and some programming experience but this is my first experience with the Arduino micro-controller and I am impressed. This is a “clone” Arduino and not a “true” Arduino from the designer, but since the Arduino is advertised as “open source” I wasn’t too concerned about that. I don’t think this is the kit for someone young or with no electronics background but with some internet research you can do a lot of cool stuff with this kit. The breadboard is not the highest quality, but that may be the sign of the way things are now, I have a 20 year old breadboard that is a lot better, but reading reviews it appears the quality of all breadboard has declined. I would suggest this to anyone with some electronics background that is willing to do some research and experimentation. You will need a computer or laptop to program the Arduino, this kit does not teach C++ programming, but there are lots of tutorials online to help once you want to go beyond the “projects” that are included. If you get this invest in a book to help with the programming or spend lots of time online.

Excellent way to get started with Arduino
This kit is the way to go if you want to get started in Arduino. It has everything you need, the lessons are great, and the software is as well. Easy to get started and setup. I am a long time IT person, and I did find the lessons pretty simple, but they way they were coded made it super easy for me to get up to speed quickly so that I could start making my own projects.

carefully package and everything came as mentioned. But Resistors are very hard to identify without labels. Elegoo should make the resistor’s identifier color clearer.
