Proster 6000 the “Swiss Army Knife” of DVMM’s!
This is the “Swiss Army knife” of DVMMs! Okay, it may be missing one or two features, but it pretty much carries all the rest. From the start, I found the Proster DVMM 6000 to be easy to get used to after having used my 20-year-old RadioShack meter for… well, 20 years.I must admit, I was impressed with the meters quality and ‘feel’. It came with a small manual, which was sufficient to explain the different settings, a pair of well-made probes, a liquid temperature sensor probe, and a handy storage/carrying case.I compared the Proster DVMM 6000 to two other meters that I have. The RadioShack DVMM, which was RadioShack’s best meter back in 1995/97, and is also an auto range meter, but otherwise, has a lot less features than the Proster. The “other meter” (I decided not to name it in this review), I compared it with was only a few days old and it contained all the features of the Proster as well as the two features the Proster doesn’t have. However, that ‘other meter’ was not an auto range meter and as far as ‘cons’ go, a meter without the auto range feature is perhaps, carrying a “huge con”.On the other hand, auto range meters are typically 3 times slower than a ‘manual range’ meter, (at least in this price range). The Proster DVMM 6000 was faster than my RadioShack meter and both being auto range meters, I would say that’s a plus. The Proster DVMM 6000 has so many features that it’s easier to name the features that it doesn’t have. In fact, of the “popular and sought after” features, the Proster DVMM 6000 does not have a backlighting capability for its LCD screen, and it does not have the “NCV” feature, (noncontact voltage detection). The fact that the Proster does not have a backlit screen was more significant to my needs than the lack of an NCV. I do tend to use a DVMM and dim light conditions and when it came to spotting the smaller symbols, I found it difficult. However, I will say that the Proster does have a very large LCD screen, which is easy to see and read in a reasonably lit environment. The NCV feature was not really a problem for me. This feature is not reliable enough to forgo using test leads on AC power outlets to tell if it’s live or not. It so happens that the second, ‘other meter’, that I mentioned earlier, does have the NCV feature.I found the NCV feature on that meter, failed to indicate three of seven AC power outlets as “live”. Even their manual insists that the NCV feature should not be relied upon and instead, one should always use the probes to make the final determination and I tend to agree. As I said earlier, the probes included with the Proster are well made. However, as most meters sold for under $50, the Proster’s probes are not capable of accepting any other attachments or tip changes. You may want to add a higher quality pair of probes to your cart when you purchase a meter. Otherwise, you won’t be able to add alligator and small-wire test clips & leads. As far as accuracy goes, I was able to confirm with reasonable confidence, that the Proster DVMM 6000 was more accurate than the RadioShack meter. However, I must point out that I have no equipment certified to test DVMM accuracy. I used a comparative test method for acquiring my results. I applied my single function generator, my DC voltage power supply, and several different “precision resistors”, (which had a very tight deviation tolerance), to make the final assessment.Between that and the fact that the RadioShack meter has been in use for over 20 years, I feel confident that the discrepancy between the two meters was due to the inaccuracy of the RadioShack meter. The Proster seems to be within the tolerances specified in the manual.I gave the Proster 5-Stars because I was not only impressed with it; I was impressed with Proster’s customer support and communication. I had the opportunity to experience this first hand when I contacted them with several questions.I definitely recommend the Proster DVMM 6000 for anyone who’s trying to keep their purchase of a decent DVMM under $50.00 and likes to know that there is a solid, fast responding customer support in Proster’s infrastructure.Rich

Good buy
I use it at work and surprisingly it works well testing wires and other relays a lot better priced than some of the other competitors

Great deal at a great price.
I am replacing my old Fluke 8062A with this unit it was not an easy thing to do but this unit is packed with features and is more powerful than my old Fluke and the stock probes are very nice and well made. I will update in a few months, but so far so good no problems and works great. My only beef is the case is very cheap looking and will not give adequate protection in case it is dropped etc so I will have to replace it, and the temperature probe is really cheaply made and does not look water proof at all these two things really blew it for this whole package and in my opinion has kept this meter from getting the 5 stars it should be getting so I gave it four.

Questionable accuracy, sensitive dial.
I may have gotten a faulty unit. It looked good and felt like good quality in my hand, but when I went to measure a 20v battery, there was sometimes a half-volt difference between one reading and the next. I know a loose connection can cause that, and trust me, I’m the kind of person who will assume user error before anything else. However, I tried different test leads and different positions and I always had the same problem. I’ve never had issues like that with other multimeters.I also thought the big rotary dial was a nice innovative feature, but didn’t like it as much when I got it. It was sensitive and easy to bump or pass your selection. If that was the only issue I would have kept it, but because of the odd behavior, I ended up returning this item. I didn’t use it enough to comment on its other functions.

Good feature set & decent accuracy at a great price!
When my trusty old DMM (a Kelvin Pro 400 purchased in 1990) started showing signs of impending trouble a few months ago, I started looking for a new meter that offered similar functions, knowing I wasn’t going to buy anything in the price range of a Fluke meter. Most meters include a set of basic functions like voltage, resistance and current measurement, with either manual or auto range settings. The real fun begins when comparing the “extra” stuff each meter adds, and deciding which one has what you need/want without paying for a bunch of extras you aren’t likely to use.Based on reviews here and recommendations from reliable web sources, I was ready to go with an Extech EX330, but then I found this VC99, and I’m glad I gave Proster a chance – I like what I see so far.Besides the usual voltage, resistance and current measurement functions, the diode test, transistor hFE and audio continuity tone are a must for me. The rest is gravy, but I definitely like the analog bar-graph display for better indication of signal “peaking” when tuning things, and the min/max data hold and Auto-range are useful too. I may not use the Frequency and capacitance functions very often, but they are nice to have.All-in-all, this meter has advertised accuracy specs similar to the EX330, and adds features the 330 doesn’t include, for less money.Update: One thing I will definitely look for in any future DMM is a back-lit display. For me, that has become almost as much a necessity as the audible continuity test function.

Plenty of functions and does exactly what it says in description.Voltage detection and temperature detection was new for me and I loved it. I compared its readings to another temperature detector with me and its quite close, like 1 degree off or the same. And the carry bag that has that thing out to pick it up from? Nice 👍Quite a deal for such a good price.Update June 11 2025: The MM somehow got burned when I was testing 220V AC in a new house I came in to. Not sure if not switching to AC mode caused it but it was supposed to automatically detect it anyway.I still think its a good tool, maybe it was my badluck.

Nun also dieses. Warum? WAS man gerade messen will. Kaufempfehlung!

For the money this is excellent value. A wide range of functions and it appears to meet published specs or better.(except temp probe) Great value for a machine that does so much and is so accurate. Claimed 0.5% on DCV and 0.8% on AC. Ohms typically 0.8%. I measured a 390ohm resistor (5% tolerance) and read 387.9ohms. Not a standard, but it does give confidence in the reading. I compared DC voltage measurements to another multimeter I have and they read within 0.025% of each other. Again no standards, but gives me confidence in the meter. I measured frequency from 20Hz to 2 Mhz(max on my function generator) and read 9.99Khz on the VC99 while showing 10khz on my function generator. Since they read within 0.1% of each other I have some confidence that the VC99 meets its claimed accuracy. Input sensitivity on freq. was much better than the claimed 2.8Vpp(0.7rms). I got a solid lock at 0.2mvpp at 10khz. Duty cycle on square wave test was accurate, confirmed identical to function gen readout and also observed wave form on scope.Cap test. Caps in the 400uf range take about 5 secs to read(charge) while smaller caps are much faster. Read one cap at 90picofarad which shows as 0.09nf on the screen. This is at its lowest scale of 40nf. Stated accuracy ranges from 2.5% to 5% depending on range.Temperature probe was quite off at room temp. Showed 23C against 19.6 actual(17% error?) I also held the probe against my soldering iron reading 333C and 300C on hi and low settings, showing that it works at these temperatures, but I could not confirm accuracy of reading, however it is certainly in the right range..I have not checked the current functions but have every reason to expect it will meet stated accuracy of 1.2% for AC below 6amp, 2% for 20amp scale. DC current claims 1% to 600ma and 2% for the 6A and 20 amp scale. Also have not checked the transistor hFE function but I assume it will work as stated. The probes that come with it work fine and are comfortable to hold. The flip stand on the back is a little flimsy and only locks in one position which I think is too low of an angle but that is a small thing. All and all, a great meter with good accuracy and a wealth of extra worthwhile functions!
